Scientists have recently decompiled rice and have working source code for this important food staple known around the world.
This looks like new grounds for the open source movement to get involved. After all, the worst thing in the world is for a major corporation to own the protected source code for a potentially world changing strain of food. What’s more, involvement from the community could lead to a more stable release of rice, which currently is prone to a number of viruses. Open source genetics could also help improve the architecture for rice, allowing for a number of rice modules that can be installed.
Overall, let’s hope this leads to a better tomorrow for all of us.
