Late last night I received an email from the 9 Rules network accepting the Apples To Oranges blog into their lineup. We are very proud to have been brought in and one of our promises as a company is to share back with the community the things we learn in our work and our industry.
Our name signifies polar opposites, and the word ‘to’ is a continuance between those two opposites. This is how we view design today, the design of the whole through a holistic approach. To us this means everything from the features and function of a site, to it’s emotional and aesthetic qualities are all important parts in designing an effective and successful whole.
As such, this blog will also reflect that outlook, dealing with web technologies as much as visual design and branding. We’ll also keep a keen eye on the developing trends of the web. Trends in how we are using the web, how we are evolving it to suit our needs, and the new experiences we are trying to create through this massive global network.
This is certainly an exciting time for anyone involved in design and development (especially engineers as they are extremely cool right now). The amount of innovation, ideas, exploration and entrepreneurship is exciting and shows how much room for growth there still is in this new medium. As the giants battle it out, and the people continually push for more and better, we’ll look back at this time as a major shift in how we communicate and live our lives on this small blue marble.

The expression “Apples to Oranges” doesn’t really compare things that are polar opposites. The point is in fact to describe a relationship between two things which on the surface seem to be the same (it’s all just fruit, right?) but in fact have important differences.
I don’t know what the polar opposite of Apples OR Oranges would be…probably pork. Or shoelaces. “Apples to Oranges” is a fine name, and good luck and props on your entrance into the 9rules network.
